Stand up!

2020

Yolanda Domínguez created a specific action for the City of Fuenlabrada by raising on their feet women famously portrayed horizontally or sitting by the men who painted them: Anna Landolt (The Nightmare) by Fuseli, Madeleine in the Bois D’amour by Émile Bernard, Teha’amana by Gauguin, Ophelia by Millais, Venus by Titian, and The Clothed Maya by Goya, literally raising them off the floor to transform their submissive pose intone of strength and independence. The accompanying text is a call to action for women on International Women’s Day (March 8th): Stand up! The women are positioned just as the men painted them but active and standing tall, and they are also standing together, forming a united and heterogenous team.
